On Riches.

Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
"We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both."
Louis D. Brandeis

We speak wonderful platitudes about the children being our future. We have heart thumping songs espousing patriotism and we are always ready for a holiday feast or a flag waving parade. We realize that America is a best country and sometimes it stinks. Or as Churchill said, "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

The true goal is not a faster car or a better house, a new suit or dress. All these wants are fool's gold, and real treasure is stored in a very different currency. Are our lives about Love or Love of money? When is enough, enough? When will the prisoners jailed by the worship of things set themselves free, and move beyond the esureint and edacious and meretricious nature and separate themselves from the odium of the poor?

Once upon a time while walking, I noticed a  child pulling and poking at his dad while his father stared into a window looking longingly at the those fancy toys on four wheels, that for some cost as much as a house. His child wanted his attention. The father was drooling as if a Saint Bernard in the sweltering summer's heat. I got the father's attention and stated, softly, "Your child is more important than those cars." He acknowledged that I was alive and went back to cooing like a pigeon after a terrific meal and now chasing a female pigeon. I interrupted once again and stated the same line. He went back to orgasming mentally, lusting after the car or the color or the workpersonship. I stated the line once again. He looked at his child and walked away disgustedly. God should not have to come back as the latest sport's car or the best chocolate in the world to get our attention. And yet like with this Dad we all make mistakes and they will be made and I have made more than my share.

As we move throughout life, which atom would we do without? In our body, the flesh that we love and disrespect which cell would we allow to be out of place? What brick in a building shall we remove? If we remove the atom or cell or brick, that we deem unwanted would not the whole structure be irrevocably changed? Do we believe that this person deserves love and the other not and then expect harmony within our whole? And when we see the failure of society or government, do we blame another or walk away?
Our goal is to love and do it in great measure by helping the poor and those who find their lives derailed.
This may be accomplished by creating an atmosphere in which we focus on success while feeding and clothing the members of Christ's body on earth.
In so doing we wish to provoke deep thought regarding the stagnation we see in regards to our fellow members of the body. Our endeavor is to be the change we wish to see in the world. We wish to be a foundation that is solid and houses the impoverished, while being effective members of our community. We shall not be broken simply because we have had miserable times. Just like any other organization we need resources, prayer, spirit and leadership. In the end, it isn't about big money or big words, it is about big love. Can you help us help others? Or can you pray for the next benefactor to come along? Thank you for all the excellent work that you do.
